LANDWADE, a parish in- the hundred of STAPLOE, county of CAMBRIDGE, 4 miles (N. N. W.) from Newmarket, containing 20 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Exning, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Norwich. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The remains of the ancient manor-house exhibit a specimen of the domestic architecture of the sixteenth century.

LANDWADE is a parish, 4 miles north-west from Newmarket station, in the hundred of Staploe, union, petty sessional division and county court district of Newmarket rural deanery of Newmarket, archdeaconry of Sudbury and diocese of St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

The church of St. Nicholas, a private chapel of the Cotton family, is an ancient structure, consisting of chancel, nave, transepts, south porch and a low embattled western tower : it contains several monuments to the Cottons; divine service is held here during the summer on the first and third Sunday afternoons.

The soil is various. The chief crops are wheat, barley, oats and turnips. The area is 127 acres; the population in 1921 was 33.
